Jason Witten wasted no time deciding what to do after retirement. The 38-year-old will sign a one-day contract with the Dallas Cowboys when his one-year contract officially expires with the Las Vegas Raiders in March, ending his illustrious NFL career for the second time in three years. It looks like this time, however, it will last, with Witten watching how he “gave it all” and has now accepted the role of joining the coaching ranks – in high school.

Witten accepted the role of principal coach at Liberty Christian School, they announced on Monday, taking the reins where their children attend school.

This will allow Witten to remain in Dallas – the school is located in Argyle, Texas, minutes northwest of downtown – in a move that rules out speculation that links him to his beloved University of Tennessee. And his way to this point was a somewhat winding road, which included a stop at the transmission booth (something he admitted “sucks”), so it stands to reason that he would not seek to revisit that avenue or similar after his second retirement . Witten noted a year ago that the decision about his future would be “quick”, but it was anything but.

After discussions with the Cowboys and new trainer Mike McCarthy, it was determined that there was no suitable lineup for him in Dallas, which led him to sign a $ 4.25 million one-year contract with the Raiders.

Witten left the Cowboys as the all-time leader of the franchise in receiving yards (12,977) and although he failed to tie Dez Bryant’s receiving touchdown mark at all times, Witten’s 72 count is still good enough for the second and will not be matched for long. And now he’s going to take his legendary football IQ into the ranks of high school, but it seems like a foregone conclusion that is just the beginning of his new chapter.
