Jasmine Harrison: She is 21 and has just become the youngest woman to row alone in the Atlantic Ocean

Harrison completed the 2020 Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge on Saturday in 70 days, 3 hours and 48 minutes – a new world record for the youngest woman to row alone in any ocean, Atlantic Campaigns said.

Along the way, she had “a near collision with a drill ship, two caps, lots of peanut butter and Nutella consumed,” said Harrison in Twitter.
Harrison, from the landlocked city of Thirsk in North Yorkshire, England, wrote on his website that he was inspired to take part in the challenge when he saw the 2018 race finish while teaching swimming in the Caribbean.

“It wasn’t just watching and holding the flags at Nelson’s yard for a race that inspired me, it was also talking to a family member of a boy who had just finished and who told me how amazing it was. I didn’t say ‘it’s not a chance to do this’, it was more of a fact why not? ” she wrote.

Harrison has set a new world record for the youngest woman to row alone in any ocean, said organizer Atlantic Campaigns
She says she hopes to “bring inspiration to young people that it’s okay to do things on their own,” according to her Facebook page.
