Jarran Reed says he will be released by Seahawks on Friday

Former Alabama standout Jarran Reed will be launched by the Seattle Seahawks on Friday, according to a report on Thursday. The report came from Reed, who said goodbye to Seahawks fans through his Twitter account.

Seattle signed Reed for a two-year contract extension, $ 23 million after the 2019 season, but releasing the defensive tackle would reduce the Seahawks’ wage obligations by $ 8.5 million to 2021.

Earlier on Thursday, the Seahawks announced the hiring of Kerry Hyder, a defensive free agent who had 8.5 sacks for the San Francisco 49ers last season. Hyder came on board for a $ 16.5 million three-year contract.

Later, Thursday, news came that Seattle had re-signed the defensive side Carlos Dunlap for a two-year contract, $ 16.6 million.

The Seahawks released Dunlap earlier this month for a $ 14.1 million wage cap savings. After looking for free will, Dunlap returned to Seattle with a more palatable deal for the Seahawks under the reduced salary cap for 2021.

This would indicate that Reed’s release may not mean the end of his term with Seattle. There is also a possibility that the Seahawks could negotiate Reed instead of releasing him on Friday.

Reed contributed 38 tackles, 6.5 sacks, five loss tackles, 14 hitting strikes and a forced fumble in 2020, when he recovered from a substandard performance in 2019.

In 2018, Reed burst with 50 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 12 loss tackles and 24 quarterback strokes. But in 2019, Reed served a six-game suspension from the NFL to open the season, and his stats plummeted to 27 tackles, two sacks, zero tackles for defeat and eight quarterback strikes.

After two seasons in Alabama, Reed joined Seattle as a second-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft. Reed started the last 66 games he played for the Seahawks.

In 72 regular season games, Reed has 194 tackles, 22 sacks, 22 loss tackles, 58 defender hits, six defending passes, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
