During an appearance on ‘The Late Show’ on Thursday night, the actor talked about returning to play the iconic DC villain.

Jared Leto returns as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, who debuted on HBO Max on Thursday, and talked about taking on the “incredible” role once again.

While joining A late show with Stephen Colbert Thursday night, Leto expressed how grateful he was to be part of Snyder’s program Justice League and referred to “Corte Snyder” as “one forever”. The film will mark Leto’s first comeback as the Joker after portraying the classic DC villain in 2016 Suicide squad.

Colbert was quick to mention how it is argued that Leto’s appearance in Justice League it could mark a “redemption” to “expand the character” of the Joker. But Leto reiterated that he simply felt honored to be asked by Snyder to step into the iconic villain’s place again.

“I was very happy to be part of his dream and to be invited to play against the Joker for the second time was just a pleasure,” said Leto. “It is one of those roles that are just incredible.”

During Leto’s appearance, he can be seen wearing a “We Live in a Society” shirt – Leto said the profits from the shirt will go to the American Suicide Prevention Foundation – as a tribute to a popular Joker-related meme and a line that he ad-libbed in a now infamous Justice League scene that appeared in a new trailer for Snyder’s Justice League. The video of Leto reciting the line went viral on social media and left many fans thrilled.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder praised Leto for the now iconic line: “We walked back and forth a little bit, and I will give Jared credit for that improvisation there, because it was very, very beautiful,” said Snyder.

The director also shared that he wrote the scene of Leto’s Joker during the quarantine at his home. “It was based on a lot of ideas that I have had over the years,” he said. “I was planting a bunch of Easter eggs in the other movies that I thought it was time to harvest in this scene.”

To further compare the original representation of Leto’s Joker with the new film, Colbert held up pictures of the actor posing in the character’s green hair with the skin covered in tattoos in Suicide squad for the darkest and scariest Joker in Justice League. Reacting to the two photos, Leto explained that this shows that “there are some years of difference” between the two.

“I think it’s an evolution,” said Leto, adding that it is common when working with a different director that “they reveal different things about you”.

Earlier in the day, Leto took the Twitter to pay tribute to Snyder before the film was released: “Zack, you are a warrior and a madman. You know this world like no one else and it was amazing to be part of the retelling of this story the way you always dreamed of,” he wrote next to a photo. its on the set with the director.

Although Leto’s Joker revival was anticipated, Deborah Snyder said THR it took a while to get the actor for the film. “Zack and Jared talked for a while,” said the producer. “Before we approached the studio, he wanted to make sure they were interested. At first, it was like ‘No’ and then it was like, ‘Well, maybe’, and then Zack said, ‘You want to see the scene where I worked? ‘”

Ben Affleck and Leto ended up filming their scenes separately due to scheduling problems, with the scene completed in three days last year.
