Jared Leto and Darren Aronfosky team in ‘Adrift’ – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Twenty years after we helped launch each other’s film career with Requiem for a dream, Jared Leto and Darren Aronofsky seem to have found a project to redo. Sources tell Deadline that one of the first big 2021 packages is coming, as Leto teamed up to star To drift, with Aronofsky on board to drive. Jason Blum will produce through his Blumhouse Proudctions along with Leto and Emma Ludbrook through Leto Paradox’s production company, as well as Carla Hacken.

The film is based on a short story by Koji Suzuki, who wrote The ring. Aronofsky and Luke Dawson will be writing the script. Sources close to the package say that Leto identified the project and he and Ludbrook sought the rights for 10 years before bringing it to Blum and Aronofsky.

The story takes place in the calm of the open sea, where a fishing boat discovers an abandoned yacht with a strange call for help. A sailor agrees to take control on his own while he is towed to port, but soon finds out why the rest of his more experienced crew members call him “Ghost Ship”.

The packaging came out on the market at the beginning of the week and already has several buyers circulating. Insiders add that while they hope it will arrive, it will not be Aronofsky’s next film, as he must direct A24 The whale with Brendan Fraser in March.

Leto has The Small things for Warner Bros., starring alongside Denzel Washington and Rami Malek. This film is coming out Friday in theaters and on HBO Max. He is also developing several projects, including a sequel to Tron: Legacy, which stars him and Garth Davis on board to direct. He’s also on board to be on the A-list set at Ridley Scott’s Gucci and has the Apple TV + series WeCrashed, that he will shoot after Gucci. He also has the Spider man spin off Morbius and just shot a scene for Zack Snyder’s Justice League where he repeats his role as the Joker.

Leto is represented by WME and Aronofsky is represented by CAA.
