Security Jaquiski Tartt ended last season as a reserve due to a ligament injury to his right big toe on 5 November. He needed surgery to repair the wound.
“At this point, I’m doing well,” said Tartt on Monday, after signing again with the 49ers for a year, through Matt Maiocco of the NBC Sports Bay Area. “The surgery went well. Rebab is doing well.
“But when it happened, I thought I would probably lose a game or two, and getting the news that it was a Grade 3 was difficult for me.”
Tartt, 29, has played only 36 of the last 64 games of the regular season due to injuries. That’s why Tartt thought that maybe the 49ers wouldn’t hire him again after six seasons in San Francisco.
“I was flying,” said Tartt. “I wasn’t sure why I left the injury. I wasn’t sure if they would want me back here or not. They did. That was good for me. I felt like I left a lot on the pitch last year, so I’m happy to be back here. “
Tartt has started 50 games in his career and will compete for his first job alongside Jimmie Ward. The 49ers hired Tavon Wilson and also have Tarvarius Moore and Marcell Harris in the position.
