Japan reports 8 new cases of anaphylaxis

Japan’s health ministry says eight more people developed severe allergic symptoms after receiving an injection of the coronavirus vaccine.

The condition called anaphylaxis has been reported in eight health professionals in their 20s and 50s.

Medical institutions reported that the eight male and female workers were inoculated from Tuesday to Wednesday with the vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech.

Subsequently, they experienced symptoms such as nausea, dizziness and headaches, but they have since recovered.

All eight are allergic to certain foods and medications or have pre-existing conditions, such as asthma and diabetes. A panel of health ministry experts plans to study the correlation on Friday.

A total of 148,915 health workers in Japan were vaccinated by 5 pm on Wednesday.

Anaphylaxis was reported in 25 people. That is about one in 6,000 of those who have been vaccinated.
