Almost exactly 40 years have passed since the launch of Janet Jackson, Janet Jackson’s first studio album, embarking on a career that took her from “the best-known music star of the Jackson family” to “first name with the entire planet” status. To highlight the anniversary, Jackson signed on to participate in an upcoming documentary about his life and career, scheduled to air on A&E and Lifetime next year, just in time for the big 4-decade date. Having filmed for the past three years, the authorized doctor will explore his rise to stardom, his relationship with his famous family and, yes, the 2004 Super Bowl incident with Justin Timberlake. (The recently sorry Timberlake addressed the incident during his nascent apology tour, noting that he “failed” with Jackson, who was unfairly overwhelmed with much of the public reaction after seeing less than a second of his exposed body by her alleged collaborator, somehow led the United States public to an orgy of Puritan guilt.)

Fitting, given JanetWith a reputation built by himself, Jackson will serve as executive producer on the documentary, opening invisible archival footage for the team building the four-hour project.
