Jameson Taillon was an exception on the Yankees’ confusing fight day

Notes on the Yankees’ 4-0 loss to the Phillies in a spring training game on Monday night.

What A Fielding

Jameson Taillon has not shot in a real game since 2019, but his field looked sharp in the 4-0 loss on Monday night to the Phillies at George M Steinbrenner Field. The Yankees holder made a couple of good plays off the mound in a bare hand swinging and bunt, and shooting for the first in both outs.

Then again

Elsewhere, the Yankees’ defense had a difficult pass on the fourth inning. Jay Bruce failed to hit a pair of balls on first base – one on a low line drive that hit his glove, the other on Gio Urshela’s errant pitch. Then Clint Frazier missed a flying ball in the lights when it landed about 6 meters in front of him to allow a run to score.

Caught my eye

Aaron Judge was stolen from a single in the sixth inning, when Ronald Torreyes made a dive stop on the shift and kicked him out at first. Judge looked at the former Yankees field player, but kept smiling at the defensive gem.

Tuesday Schedule

Corey Kluber will take the next step in his preparation for the season, starting the match against Tigers at 1:05 pm at the Joker Marchant Stadium.
