James Gunn: Marvel hated the voice of Bradley Cooper’s rocket

Apparently, some Marvel bosses wanted the CGI character “Guardians of the Galaxy” to sound more like Bradley Cooper.

James Gunn has yet to comment on the Warner Bros decision. from changing his 2021 comic book “The Suicide Squad” to a hybrid HBO Max movie release, but he’s been using social media this Christmas week to shed light on his past movie comic. During a question-and-answer session with fans, Gunn revealed that he had some internal impact when editing his 2014 Marvel favorite, “Guardians of the Galaxy”, about Bradley Cooper’s voice work as the CGI character Rocket Raccoon.

“An executive – no longer at Marvel Studios / Disney – saw an initial cut and said, ‘Why do we pay for Bradley Cooper if he doesn’t even sound like Bradley Cooper!?'” Revealed Gunn. “I was like, we hired him because he is a great actor. That is the question! He’s creating a CHARACTER! “

Strangely, Bradley Cooper’s Rocket Raccoon kind of sounds like a thicker, richer Bradley Cooper. The Oscar-nominated actor voiced Rocket in both Gunn’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, as well as “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame”, and he will return for Gunn’s third “Guardians” performance on future. While answering another question from fans, Gunn said that his dream comic book movie includes Rocket and Groot from the “Guardians” franchise joining forces with his new CGI characters “Suicide Squad”, Weasel and King Shark.

Marvel Studios has not announced a specific production start date for “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”, although parent company Disney confirmed earlier this month, Gunn will also write and direct a “Guardians” holiday special for the Disney + streaming service.
