‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ adds 5 to the cast

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” is broadcasting five more to its cast. Babs Olusanmokun, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Jess Bush and Melissa Navia joined stars Ethan Peck, Anson Mount and Rebecca Romjin in the Paramount + series, which began production on Friday. The series follows Spock (Peck), Captain Pike (Monte) and Number One (Romjin), all introduced in the second season of “Star Trek: Discovery”. “Strange New Worlds” will follow the three in the decade prior to Captain Kirk embarking on the USS Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. There was no further details on who the five new cast members would play. Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Meyers will serve as co-showrunners. Goldsman will direct the first episode. Olusanmokun’s television credits include Netflix’s “Black Mirror”, Marvel’s “The Defenders”, HBO’s “The Night Of” and the remake of History’s 2016 “Roots” miniseries. His film credits include the upcoming “Dune” and “Wrath of Man”. Chong can currently be seen in the live-action adaptation of “Tom and Jerry” and in “Bulletproof” by the CW. Gooding starred as Frankie Healy in “Jagged Little Pill”, a musical inspired by Alanis Morissette’s award-winning album, until Broadway closed in 2021, and received a Tony nomination in 2020 for Best Actress in a Musical for his work. Bush starred as Helen in the independent film “Skinford” and appeared in the role of Kendall’s recurring guest on the Channel 10 series “Playing for Keeps”. Navia’s recent television credits include a recurring role in AMC’s “Dietland” and special roles in Showtime’s “Billions” and “Homeland”. In March 2020, she made her off-Broadway debut in the much-vaunted “Bundle of Sticks” at INTAR Theater. “Strange New Worlds” will be the third live action series “Star Trek” from the streaming service, along with “Star Trek: Picard”. It will also be the second spin-off of “Discovery”, joining the series led by Michelle Yeoh based on section 31 of the Starfleet intelligence agency, which is still under development. Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet will serve as executive producers, in addition to Alonso Myers, Heather Kadin, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth. Aaron Baiers, Akela Cooper and Davy Perez will serve as executive co-producers. These three join the animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and the next “Star Trek: Prodigy”.
