Jamar Mackey, police officer VA Beach wrongly detained in a mall, says the test was positive for COVID-19 … and he is blaming the unmasked officers who handcuffed him.
Jamar’s outrageous meeting with police on December 19 made national headlines because VA Beach PD grabbed the wrong guy in what appeared to be a clear case of racial discrimination. At the time, Jamar and her fiance told TMZ that they were upset – not just because of the humiliation and supposed profile – but because the police didn’t wear masks.

Jamar and Shantel Covil tell us that they take the pandemic and quarantine very seriously because he owns a sanitation company and she owns a home health care company. Both test frequently, and he says he got a positive result on December 22 – just 3 days after the incident – so he is convinced that it was the source of his infection.
As to whether the officers involved have the coronavirus – VBPD says they cannot comment due to privacy laws.
So far, Shantel has been negative, but Jamar has told us that they are more concerned about the fact that his children, including the newborn, contract the virus.
Jamar and Shantel say they want VBPD make some big changes, including the dismissal of the unmasked police officer who handcuffed Jamar.
