Jalen Hurts is doing all the right things in the midst of the Carson Wentz drama

The past few weeks have been an absolute mess when it comes to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Carson Wentz era seems to be over, with the team vigorously trying to find a suitable business partner. The Bears, Colts, Broncos and several others threw their hats into the draw and the rumor is spinning faster than ever. Understandably, this leaves Jalen injured in a complicated position, but it is one that he is handling incredibly well.

In fact, since his bank in a controversial week 17 dispute that has sparked a lot of controversy, Hurts has been cool, calm and collected. He never said the wrong thing or did any laundry. He did not use social media to cryptically tweet his emotions before revoking them when the pressure cooker heated up.

With Carson Wentz’s situation getting brighter and brighter by the day, it would be easy for Hurts to fall into the trap of being surrounded by a whirlwind. Who would really blame him? He is a second-round pick who replaced the QB franchise during last season’s chaotic downfall and this may be a role he soon inherits as a result.

Instead, Hurts went to the NFL Network and showed a playful and confident side in reflecting on his debut season.

After that, he decided to gather his young receivers and organize a group training in Texas for the next few weeks. This shouldn’t be a surprise, he did something similar with DeSean Jackson last season, while Carson Wentz and Sam Bradford have also organized similar trips in the past. It is not the act itself that is remarkable here, but the moment.

The entire offense is in a state of flux now. Is Zach Ertz on the move? Will the Eagles make another top team this year? Will there be a running back involved in the Wentz business? There must be an understandable sense of uncertainty around the group, but Hurts decided to take the lead, bring his teammates together and focus on what really matters – football.

Jalen Hurts’ game will be evaluated and criticized non-stop this season, but one thing that can only attract praise is his maturity. Hurts is sailing through unknown waters with a real sense of calm, exuding subtle leadership characteristics and uniting the team … which is exactly what a franchise QB should do.
