Eagles coach Doug Pederson said he was training to win after playing on Jalen Hurts’ bench for Nate Sudfeld on Sunday night. Hurts wishes he could have played to win.
A clearly dismayed Hurts said after the game that he wanted to be there trying to win the game with his teammates, but did not criticize Pederson for pulling him out.
“As a competitor, I play to win. But you have to trust the coach for that, ”said Hurts.
Hurts was not throwing the ball well before Pederson pulled him, but Sudfeld launched the ball even worse. And Hurts ran for two touchdowns to keep the Eagles in the game at the start, while Sudfeld did not offer that kind of race threat and gave the Eagles no chance.
The Eagles have some difficult questions to answer about the future of Pederson, Hurts and Carson Wentz. It was a disappointing season, and a season that strangely ended with Pederson, Hurts and Wentz all standing on the sideline and watching Sudfeld lose the game.
