The momentum continues to grow for former Ohio and Florida coach Urban Meyer, ending a two-year retirement and becoming the first NFL coach.

The persistent conversation in league circles remains that the job of head coach for the Jaguars will go to Meyer, if he wants to. The question is whether he wants to.

Meyer, as PFT confirmed, has been contacting individuals he would potentially hire to join him in Jacksonville. He would also have the ability to hire his own general manager, which means that Meyer would enter the NFL with full control over a team.

One name that is circulating in this regard is the Chiefs’ former GM, Scott Pioli. Most recently, he served as assistant general manager for Falcons and recently maintained a presence on various media platforms.

The fact that the cat appears to be escaping Meyer’s bag could complicate Jacksonville’s efforts to comply with the Rooney Rule. For now, Jaguars still have a head coach on the payroll, but Doug Marrone is widely expected to be out.

So here’s the potential question: if Meyer said no, would that be enough to save Marrone?
