Jacob Blake filed an excessive force suit against the Kenosha police officer who shot him

The lawsuit, which only names Kenosha, Wisconsin, police officer Rusten Sheskey as a defendant, argues that the shooting “was carried out with Blake’s malice, obstinacy and reckless indifference to rights”.

Blake survived the shooting, but was paralyzed from the waist down. The lawsuit notes that Blake “suffered and will continue to suffer physical and emotional damage”.

CNN contacted Sheskey and the Kenosha Police Department for comment, but received no response immediately.

The lawsuit asks for compensation “at fair and fair value, sufficient to indemnify [Blake] for the injuries he sustained, in addition to a substantial amount of punitive damages. “

Kenosha County District Attorney Michael Graveley announced in January that neither Sheskey nor the other two officers would be criminally charged for his actions. Blake was also not charged with the incident.

CNN reported that Sheskey told investigators shortly after the incident that he used deadly force during the chaotic encounter because he was afraid that Blake, in trying to escape the scene, was trying to kidnap a child in the back seat of the vehicle he was driving.
