Jacksonville Jaguars agrees to a $ 44.5 million three-year contract with Shaquill Griffin, the source said

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jaguars have their two starting cornerbacks in custody for at least three seasons after the team agreed to a three-year deal with former Seattle Seahawk Shaquill Griffin, a league source told Adam Schefter.

Griffin’s contract is worth $ 44.5 million with a guaranteed $ 29 million, the source said.

Griffin will team up with CJ Henderson from the first round of 2020 to give the Jaguars two young corners around which to build the secondary. They really needed help: the Jaguars played man-to-man coverage at the league’s fourth highest rate last season and allowed for a high league of 8.7 yards per attempt, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

Griffin, 25, has been a holder of the Seahawks since the start of his 2017 debut season. The third round selection began his career on the right side and had been the team’s No. 1 corner since moving to the left side in his second season, after Richard Sherman was released.

Griffin has six interceptions in four seasons, including his top three in 12 games in 2020. He also has 48 passes saved.

He made his only Pro Bowl as an alternate in 2019.

Griffin played 57 of 64 games in the regular season. He lost four games last season, while dealing with a concussion and a tendon injury. He lost a game in 2017 due to a concussion.

The Seahawks reunited Griffin with his twin brother Shaquem, a linebacker / pass-rusher, when they summoned him in the fifth round in 2018. The two also played together in college in Central Florida. Shaquem Griffin entered the off-season as a restricted free agent.
