Jackie Bradley Jr. signs $ 24 million contract with Brewers after Mets flirtation

Despite the reported interest of the Mets, Jackie Bradley Jr. is taking his talents to Milwaukee.

The former Red Sox outfielder is signing a two-year, $ 24 million contract with the Brewers, according to ESPN. The deal includes an opt-out after the first year.

Bradley Jr. is considered one of the best defensive outfielders in the league, having won a Gold Glove in 2018, and was the best remaining outfielder in the free agency. His bat is more continuous, maintaining a 0.239 career batting average, but he hit 0.283 with seven home runs in the reduced 2020 campaign.

The Mets were in negotiations with Bradley Jr. after losing to the Blue Jays in George Springer’s draw. The Mets ended up opting for smaller ticket options, signing Kevin Pillar and Albert Almora.

Pillar and Almora must compete for time on the central field with Brandon Nimmo.
