It’s the little things that count in a new box office era

The little things

Warner Bros. will spend 2021 simultaneously releasing all of its films on HBO Max and in theaters, and while Wonder Woman 1984 was technically the first film to be released on this system, came out in 2020 and therefore does not count. This makes John Lee Hancock’s cliché thriller The little things The real first film to be released since Warner Bros. turned his back on cinema (this dig is for our friend Chris), and last weekend was the first of the new era for the studio. So, as The little things to do at the brick and mortar box office? Eh, okay.

See, as we have said repeatedly since September or so, nothing does particularly well at the box office today, unless it’s the Croods sequel and can last an impressive 10 weeks because it is the only new family movie (or new, since it was released 10 weeks ago) showing in most cinemas that have opened again. The little things made $ 4.8 million, which was enough to land in first place last weekend, even if it’s not so much money, but it will be interesting to see if the film has any weight at the box office with some other thrillers to compete (De Liam Neeson The shooter is still holding on, and history suggests that there will be another new Liam Neeson thriller coming out at any time).

Anyway, the rest is everything we’ve seen before: The Croods: A New Age added another $ 1.8 to its total, bringing it to just under $ 44 million, while Wonder Woman 1984 continued to lag behind with $ 1.3 million (it’s $ 39 million). Then there is the aforementioned Shooter ($ 1.2 million for a total of $ 7 million) and video game adaptation Monster hunter ($ 740,000 for a total of $ 11 million). The only other newbie this week was supernova, falling in 11th place with just $ 98,670. Those $ 4 million don’t look so bad now, do they?
