It’s a sin: a nurse reflects on the 1980s AIDS crisis – podcast | News

It’s a Sin, the Channel 4 and HBO Max drama written by Russel T Davies, follows the lives of five friends who grew up in the shadow of AIDS. The series started conversations in Britain about the realities – political and personal – of living during the HIV / AIDS crisis, led to an increase in the number of people who get tested for HIV and helped to raise awareness about medicines preventive measures and effective treatment now available to people living with the virus.

Anushka Asthana talk to Leigh Chislett, a nurse who worked at St Mary’s hospital in Paddington, London, in the HIV ward during the 1980s. He tells Anushka about living in London as a young gay man and the terrible impact that AIDS has had on the gay community. But he says he also encouraged them to fight for greater rights.
