343 Industries announced that a new map is coming to Halo 3 through Halo: The Master Chief Collection, and it will be the first new map since the 2009 Mythic II Map Pack.
In a blog post released on Halo Waypoint on Friday, developer 343 Industries announced that a new map is coming for the canceled Halo Online project game that was developed by Saber Interactive. This is probably the “new place” part of the “new place and way of playing” that 343 sparked last week.
In case you didn’t know, Halo Online was a free multiplayer Halo release that only had action in Russia in 2015 and was built on a modified version of the Halo 3 engine. Halo fans have been curious about the game since it was released, and the repeated attempts by enthusiasts to bring the game online (unofficially) were quickly sidetracked by Microsoft.
Looking forward to adding more content to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, however, it looks like 343 is finally breaking into Halo’s archives and bringing some lost content to the active build game.
Some research by Kotaku folks seems to suggest that the entry map will be ‘Waterfall’, a canceled Halo Online map that was never released in the short F2P title. Curious.
You need to be a member of the Halo: The Master Chief Collection flighting beta program if you want to get a taste of this new map as soon as possible. It looks like it could be added to the beta on February 18th.
As we’ve reported, this update will also add support for FOV slider on Xbox consoles next week.
This is not the end of the line for The Master Chief Collection, either: 343 asked fans if they wanted raytracing support for the Xbox Series X and S Series of The Master Chief Collection.
