Trusted hacker Lance McDonald – yes, it’s the same Lance McDonald who was behind those extraordinary PT hacks – discovered Nier’s final secret: Automata.
After “hundreds of hours or reverse engineering“McDonald found a complex cheat code that allows the player to jump straight to the last of the game’s many endings right after killing the first boss.
As McDonald strives to explain, no, it is not an exploit or a cheese – it is “a real cheat code” intentionally coded in the game.
“I found a cheat code in NieR Automata that allows you to jump to the final ending immediately after killing the first boss and unlocking the bonus modes,” McDonald tweeted earlier today (thanks, PC Gamer). “I will make a full video soon. It is not a failure, it is a real cheat code built into the engine.”

After copying director Yoko Taro to get his attention, he and the game’s official Twitter account acknowledged McDonald’s achievement with a response, with the old tweet: “3 years and 10 months. (◎ 血 ◎)” in reference how long it took for the secret to be discovered.
