Matthew McConaughey is addressing a possible candidacy for public office.

The actor spoke to the Today Al Roker of the program, who was in Texas reporting on the state’s recovery from historic winter storms, on conversations – including the star’s own speculations – that he is considering running for the state government.

“It is a very honorable consideration,” said the 51-year-old Oscar winner. “So, am I considering this? Sure. It’s a great and honorable thing to consider.”

The father of three continued, “What I have to choose for myself is: I want to take a leadership role in the next chapter of my life. Now, what role will I be most helpful in? I don’t want to.” I don’t know if I am in a political position or if I am myself as a free agent. So, this is something I’m working on personally: what is my most useful position in a leadership role. “

During the segment, McConaughey, whose Just Keep Livin ‘Foundation has been helping Texans in the midst of the storm’s recovery, visited a 93-year-old woman with whom the star and her family teamed up several years ago while delivering Thanksgiving dinner. to the needy.

“I would vote for him,” she said confidently.

McConaughey said the only announcement he was officially making is that on March 21 he will hold a charity event for Texans recovering from the storms on his YouTube channel. Is called We are texas and will feature Chip and Joanna Gaines, Kelly Clarkson, Selena Gomez, the Jonas Brothers, Willie Nelson and more.

This week, McConaughey also spoke to his hometown Longview News-Journal about politics – and being in the middle with Republicans on one side and Democrats on the other.

“I said this analogy some [times] before, but someone said to me, ‘There’s nothing in between but dead armadillos and yellow lines,’ “he said.” I said, ‘Well, I’m going down the yellow lines, right in the middle of the highway right now. And the armadillos are having a lot of fun, because right now the two sides are either on the right or on the left, they don’t even have tires on the asphalt. ‘So I think, to enter, to think that Democrat or Republican or one of the others, is a small thought now and even become unconstitutional because you must serve the American people or the people of your state. “

He said that due to the parties, politicians often take office and “their hands are tied in various ways”. And when politicians enact changes, they are often not permanent.

“With politics, you can go and put some band-aids on some things for four years, but once your band-aids can be removed, then what change do you really make? For me, I need a policy to define your purpose before choosing it as a possible clue for me to pursue, “he said.

For now, he said he is in the middle of both parties – and that is where he will remain.

“That’s what I’m saying now when I say, ‘Hey, meet you in the middle, I challenge you.’ It is a challenge now. It is not a place with the gray colors of commitment or siege. No. It is a bold and wild pace to go now – in the middle, “said McConaughey. “And, if you’re completely illegitimate the opposite side, you’re only half serving.”
