Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns are at the top of the WWE with their respective world titles, and they deserve all the praise that comes their way. However, for comparison and rightly so, who was the best world champion?
Vince Russo shared his thoughts on the issue, as well as Drew McIntyre’s reservation during the last episode of UnSKripted with SK Wrestling Dr. Chris Featherstone.
The former WWE principal writer said that Drew McIntyre deserves the title of best wrestling world champion. Russo explained that Drew McIntyre did everything the company expected of him, and the Scottish Warrior worked hard to become the face of Monday Night RAW.
“I would have to say, man, because I’m strictly working really hard, okay. Drew McIntyre really worked. Drew McIntyre did everything the company asked him to do.”

Russo, however, added that mediocre creative decisions held back Drew McIntyre. Vince Russo labeled the creative “absolutely atrocious” and said that WWE’s hiring of McIntyre’s character was the reason for his stunted rise.
“Unfortunately, bro, the creative, I think, has been absolutely atrocious. There is no reason why McIntyre could not be there as one of the greatest of all time. The only thing that has prevented him is the hiring of the character.”
While Russo loved Reigns and the Tribal Chief’s work at SmackDown, McIntyre’s professionalism and work ethic has been exceptional, and that puts him ahead of the Universal Champion.
“But this guy popped his hump. So, I would say Drew McIntyre without a doubt. You know, Reigns is doing a great job. I love Roman Reigns, but McIntyre is working hard.”
Vince Russo is not wrong to praise Drew McIntyre as the Superstar’s record as the WWE champion speaks for itself. Scottish Superstar has been one of the faces of the company during the most challenging phase in the industry. Drew McIntyre was arguably one of the most important Superstars during the pandemic era of pro wrestling and remains an indispensable resource on the road to WrestleMania 37.
