The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are closed on President’s Day 2021.

Almost a year ago, the Covid-19 pandemic had just begun to shake up US actions. Still, the prospect of a year of downtime in the United States seemed far-fetched at the time. And yet, the
S&P 500 Index
is 16% higher than a year ago.
Investors are optimistic about hopes of a return to normality in the coming months, as states implement Covid-19 vaccines. For now, US traders will have some time off for President’s Day.
The federal holiday, which dates from 1885 and was instituted to honor George Washington, takes place on the third Monday in February. Since then, it has expanded to celebrate all US presidents. Government offices are closed today and it is a public holiday. The US Post Office does not deliver mail on President’s Day.
Is the stock market open on Presidents’ Day 2021?
The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq are closed on Monday, February 15. Bond markets and over-the-counter markets will also be closed during the day. Both US senior exchanges will open on Tuesday at 9:30 am
Are international markets closed on President’s Day 2021?
The Shanghai Stock Exchange is closed until Wednesday, local time. This is because of the Lunar New Year, not President’s Day. The Hong Kong stock exchange is closed on Monday for the fourth day of the Lunar New Year. The Toronto Stock Exchange is closed on February 15 for Family Day in Canada.
The London Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange will be open during normal trading hours on Monday.
And the rest of the week?
Some US schools close President’s Day all week for vacation. Traders can do the same.
Going back to February 1971, the S&P 500 index recorded an average decline of 0.1% on the Tuesday following President’s Day, according to the Dow Jones Market Data. Average performance during President’s Day week is down 0.05%, with the index rising in the middle of 50 weeks.
