Is Thad Matta a candidate for a job at Indiana HC?

Thad Matta has been linked to several prominent chief coaching positions since he left Ohio State almost four years ago, and the vacancy in Indiana is the most recent.

Matta emerged as a name to watch for in Indiana’s search for training, according to Rick Bozich of the WDRB.

Matta has deep ties to the state of Indiana and the Midwest. He was born in Illinois and played and trained at Butler, which is in Indianapolis. The 53-year-old also has extensive experience at the Big Ten conference of his 13 years as a coach in the state of Ohio, so he would make a lot of sense as a candidate for Indiana if he is considering a comeback.

Although he has not been a coach since 2017, Matta is linked to several jobs. He was considered the favorite for the position at UNLV two years ago, which became vacant again after TJ Otzelberger went to Iowa recently. Before that, Matta was considered Georgia’s first choice before withdrawing from consideration.

Matta had a record of 337-123 in the state of Ohio. He led the Buckeyes to the NCAA Tournament nine times and made an appearance in the Final Four. He cited health problems as a factor when he stepped down in 2017.
