Is double masking effective? Where to buy disposable cloth and masks

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a study last month that indicates that wearing a cloth mask over a medical procedure mask offers more protection against the coronavirus.

During laboratory tests, the CDC simulated a person coughing, producing aerosols from a mouthpiece. The experiment showed that double-masking blocked 85.4% of the cough particles, at the same time that it was 95% effective when both parts are double-masked.

As for the use of a single mask, the study showed that a cloth mask alone blocked 51.4% of the cough particles, while a medical procedure mask blocked 56.1% of the cough particles.

However, not all masks should be layered. The CDC says that layers of N95 and KN95 masks with other types of masks would restrict airflow and cause carbon dioxide to rise, according to a report by The Seattle Times.

The N95 and KN95 masks filter at least 95% of the particles in the air when used alone, says the report. The main difference between the two is the KN95 masks made in China and not tested by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), located in the United States.

Here are a variety of options for disposable and three-layer cotton face masks currently available online.
