Iran has already shown that it can pressure the Biden government to make concessions related to its nuclear weapons program, former acting National Intelligence director Richard Grenell told “Your World” on Friday.
The Trump administration withdrew the U.S. from the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, but Biden campaigned to re-enter and rescinded Trump’s efforts to reinstate United Nations sanctions against Iran.
State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Thursday that the Biden government “would accept an invitation from the European Union’s High Representative to attend a meeting of P5 + 1 and Iran to discuss a diplomatic way forward in the Iranian nuclear program “.
The announcement came days after a rocket attack on a US air base in northern Iraq, claimed by an Iraqi Shiite militia linked to Iran. However, the Biden government has not yet formally blamed any groups for the attack.

“We have seen a threat with the Iranians in the past two days,” Grenell told host Neil Cavuto. “They said that if we did not remove all sanctions … they would not allow inspectors to return. We already have a very weak inspection regime there.”
Grenell noted that Europe’s foreign ministers said Iran’s threatening rhetoric is not a good sign for prospects for peace, but Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Biden have taken the opposite approach.
