Vaccines may not be effective

Dr. Scott Gottlieb who appeared on Face the Nation warned on Sunday that the New York variant of COVID-19 could reinfect survivors of the virus and people who were vaccinated.

Gottlieb said the variant is known as B.1.526 and is worrying and it is not yet known where it is causing an increase in cases in parts of New York City.

“What we don’t understand about 1,526 is whether people are being reinfected or not and whether people who could have been vaccinated are now being infected,” said Gottlieb. New York City now has the fifth highest number of cases per 100 , 00.

“One of the concerns about this particular variant is that it has that mutation that is also in the South African variant, in variant B.1.351, which we know that in certain cases is causing people who have had coronavirus to be reinfected with it, “he added. “The question is whether 1,526 is responsible for some of the increases we are seeing in New York now and whether this is the start of a new outbreak within the city.”
