IPhone smaller than 13 notch pictured in the fictitious unit

The Japanese supply chain blog Macotakara shared images and video of what it claims to be a fictional unit model of the iPhone 13 Pro. This model offers a more detailed view of the supposedly redesigned notch, as well as design changes for the front selfie camera.

This fictional iPhone 13 Pro unit was probably created based on leaked schematics from supply chain sources. This type of information is regularly shared among accessory manufacturers before Apple’s official announcement of a new iPhone.

The report says that the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro measures 5.35 mm in height, compared to the 5.3 mm on the notch on the iPhone 12 Pro. In terms of width, the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro measures 26.8 mm against 34.83 mm on the iPhone 12 Pro. This means that the notch on the iPhone 13 Pro is likely to be smaller in width, but slightly higher.

This is probably due to how Apple is moving the headset speaker to the top frame of the iPhone 13, pushing it down a bit further. This design change was first announced last year for the iPhone 12 line, but ultimately it didn’t. Instead, iPhone 12 features the same notch design as iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11.

The fictitious unit obtained by Macotakara it also shows that Apple is considering repositioning the front camera from the right side of the iPhone notch to the left side. There is no clear explanation for this change, but it may have something to do with the internal layout of the notch sensors.

In addition to the smaller notch and the relocated front camera, there is not much more to harvest from this fictional unit. The iPhone 13 is expected to be very similar to the iPhone 12 in terms of design, with other underlying changes, such as improvements to the screen and the possibility of Touch ID.
