iPhone 11 survived six months at the bottom of a lake [Video]

An iPhone 11 survived nearly six months at the bottom of a lake before being found and rescued by divers. It was a particularly fortunate rescue, as the phone had no backup, so its owner was able to recover photos that she thought were lost forever.

It is a very big performance in the waterproof rating promised by Apple for the phone, which is defined as good for a maximum depth of two meters (6.5 feet) for up to 30 minutes …

The phone was found by divers Clay and Heather Helkenberg, husband and wife, who spend time cleaning up the lakeside trash and, when possible, returning valuable items to their owners. Clay Helkenberg said:

I dive in various lakes and rivers in British Columbia, Canada, finding people’s lost treasures and cleaning up all the trash I find. I do this for fun and found all kinds of items, including phones, GoPros and other valuables, and I can often return them to their rightful owners.

Helkenberg posted a video (below) of the phone’s location in Harrison Lake, in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia, Canada.

Video of the combination of two dives in Lake Harrison, one of the dives I didn’t find much of, so I just combined them. Heather found her first phone, and it was a functional iPhone 11! An incredible find. I managed to locate the owner and return her, which is always the best! In total 3 phones and 11 pairs of sunglasses were found and as usual we took a lot of garbage out of the lake.

CBC reports that the owner of the phone at first thought it was a joke when Helkenberg’s texted her.

Clayton Helkenberg said he normally puts phones in a silica container to dry them, but he was lucky with the iPhone 11s. “I took it home, cleaned up the mess and called immediately, so it was amazing,” he said.

He pulled out the SIM card, put it on another phone to find out the phone number, and contacted owner Fatemeh Ghodsi.

Ghodsi, who lives in Vancouver, was confused and thought that one of his friends might be playing a trick on her. But she soon became convinced and made a trip to Chilliwack to pick up the phone, which surprisingly still works […]

Ghodsi dropped her phone in the water in early September, during a ride on the shock boats – photos retrieved from the phone show that she was still smiling moments before the accident […]

“I was in a situation where I lost my balance and threw it into the water,” she said, adding that the water park team convinced her that it would be impossible to find the phone in deep water. “Distressed and in tears, we returned to Vancouver a little hopelessly,” said Ghodsi.

She soon bought a new phone and accepted the lost photos, contacts and other personal information that was not backed up.

Ghodsi reports that the microphone does not work and the speaker is damaged, but everything else works perfectly. Check out the videos of the find and the reaction of the owner below.
