Iowa exceeds 300,000 COVID-19 cases, reports 19 more deaths

EDITOR’S NOTE: The daily numbers we report do not match the numbers the state is reporting for each day. Every day at 10am, we take the previous day’s numbers from 10am and subtract them with the current state numbers at 10am. Instead of reporting a day ago, we want to provide the most up-to-date information. For Black Hawk and Linn counties, we are reporting the COVID-19 site numbers for their counties. For Johnson and Dubuque counties, we are providing numbers for the state website.

IOWA

(KWWL) – There were 1,532 new cases confirmed from 10am Wednesday to 10am Thursday, according to the state panel, which brings the total number of cases in the state to 301,442.

The state website reports that of the 301,442 people who tested positive, 262,225 recovered. There are 1,723 more recoveries than the state reported on Wednesday.

The death toll in the state is 4,251, 19 more than reported on Wednesday.

Subtracting the number of recoveries (262,225) and the number of deaths (4,251) from the total number of cases (301,442), we see that there are currently 34,966 positive cases active in the state.

There were 86 patients hospitalized in Iowa in the last 24 hours and the total number of hospitalizations is 532, which is 516. Of those hospitalizations, 85 are in the ICU (out of 79) and 35 are in ventilators (out of 30).

In Iowa, there were 5,176 new tests done in the past 24 hours, and a total of 1,405,142 1,410,318 people were tested for COVID-19. The positivity rate in the last 24 hours (1,532 positive tests divided by 5,176 tests provided) is 29.5 percent.

BLACK HAWK COUNTY

From 10am on Thursday, the Black Hawk COVID-19 panel is presenting 64 new cases since 10 am on Wednesday, leaving a total of 14,325 cases (13,489 positive cases for PCR and antigen and 836 positive cases for serology). There were 86 additional recoveries in the municipality, totaling 12,019. There were three additional deaths, leaving a total of 228 deaths. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 11.9 percent.

LINN COUNTY

From 10am on Thursday, the COVID-19 panel from Linn County is presenting 64 new cases since 10 am on Wednesday, leaving a total of 17,513 cases. There were 54 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 15,110 recoveries. There were no additional deaths, leaving a total of 249 deaths. There are 26 patients currently hospitalized in the municipality. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 10 percent.

JOHNSON COUNTY

According status panel At 10 am on Thursday, there are 59 new positive cases reported in Johnson County since 10 am on Wednesday. This brings the total to 11,878 reported cases. There were 38 additional recoveries, leaving a total of 10,443 recoveries. There were no additional deaths, leaving a total of 49 deaths. The average 14-day positivity rate for the county is 11%.

DUBBLE COUNTY

According status panel at 10 am on Thursday, there were 38 additional positive cases reported in Dubuque County since 10 am on Wednesday. This brings the total to 11,208 reported cases. There were 37 additional recoveries reported, leaving a total of 10,080. There were two additional deaths reported, leaving a total of 148 deaths. The county’s average 14-day positivity rate is 12 percent.
