Investigation of stolen fire and rescue vaccines in St. Petersburg

Details are scarce, but the St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue confirmed to Spectrum Bay News 9 that the vials of the vaccine were stolen.

So far, officials have not said how many or when, but the SPFR has requested an internal investigation by the St. Petersburg Police Department, according to an agency spokesman.

Spectrum News also contacted the mayor’s office for comment.

“We are aware of the allegations and understand that a police investigation is underway,” wrote communications director Ben Kirby by email.

Our news partner, the Tampa Bay Times, is reporting that St. Petersburg Fire and Rescue helps the vaccination site staff at the Foundation for a Healthy St. Petersburg.

Last week, a Polk County rescue paramedic was arrested and charged with stealing vaccine bottles.

A PCFR captain was later arrested in connection with the case.
