Interview with Meghan and Harry: Royals say they can consider nominating diversity chief

The news comes weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan, told Oprah Winfrey that a member of the royal family – not the Queen or Prince Philip – raised the question of how bleak his unborn child would be.
“Diversity is an issue that has been taken very seriously in royal families,” said a royal source on Sunday. “We have policies, procedures and programs in place, but we have not seen the progress we would like in terms of representation and more needs to be done, we can always improve.”

“The work to do this has been ongoing for some time and has the full support of the family,” added the source.

Royalty has always been out of politics. Now they have entered Britain's cultural wars

With regard to reports circulating in various UK media outlets that the royal family can nominate a “head of diversity”, the source said it was “something to be considered”, but it was “too early” to announce any “firm plans”.

“Many measures are being considered. Certainly, the idea of someone to lead this work and look at diversity / inclusion in the three families is something that must be considered. It is too soon, however, for any firm plan to be announced. We are listening and learn, to do it right, “added the source.

Harry and Meghan also spoke of racist coverage in the British press during their bombshell interview, allegations that led to the resignation of the head of the UK Publishers’ Society after he refused to acknowledge the problem.
Last week, Prince William told reporters that royalty “was not a racist family”, days after the palace said that – “although memories vary” – the serious claims would be dealt with by the family in particular. Palace, however, hired an outside law firm to investigate allegations that Meghan intimidated the royal team.
