Intel survey reports on quarterly earnings hack

(Reuters) – Intel Corp said on Thursday that it was investigating reports that a chart in its quarterly earnings statement was the subject of unauthorized access prior to publication.

“As soon as we became aware of these reports, we made the decision to issue our earnings announcement just before the originally scheduled launch time,” the United States computer chip company said in a statement.

Earlier on Thursday, the Financial Times quoted Intel’s chief financial officer as saying that confidential financial information was stolen by a hacker from its corporate website.

CFO George Davis said the leak was the result of an unlawful action that did not involve any unintended disclosure by the company itself, according to the report. (on.ft.com/2XZ1KOB)
