A SoulCycle instructor apologized for “a terrible error of judgment” for calling herself an educator to get a vaccine against Covid-19.
In an already deleted post on social media, Stacey Griffith, a fitness instructor based in New York, said she filled out the paperwork and drove an hour to Staten Island to receive her first dose of the Modern vaccine, according to The Daily Beast .
“Now I can teach @soulcycle with a little more faith that we will all be fine if we can [vaccine]”Griffith’s post was read. She told The Daily Beast that her role as an” educator “made her eligible to enter the front line for a vaccination.
His posting raised questions and generated outrage. Mayor Bill de Blasio also called Griffith’s vaccination problematic.
“It doesn’t sound like someone who should have been vaccinated against me,” he said at a news conference on Sunday. “I don’t think anyone who comes up and says, ‘Hey, I’m a Soul Cycle instructor’ should be qualified unless there is some other factor there. That should have been detected in the application process.”
Griffith, 52, initially defended his decision to skip the line and receive the Covid-19 jab with other educators.
“All teachers can apply for the vaccine. My post today was to show my confidence in the system, in our government, and I hope that everyone can at least feel more comfortable knowing that I went through the process, ”she told The Daily Beast.
On Monday, however, Griffith stepped back and posted a public apology on her Instagram page.
“I want to apologize wholeheartedly for my recent action on receiving the vaccine,” wrote Griffith. “I made a terrible error of judgment and that’s why I’m really sorry.”
The spin instructor did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment, and SoulCycle said Griffith operated on a “personal capacity” when signing up for the vaccine.
“SoulCycle plays no role in organizing or obtaining vaccines for instructors or other employees, nor do we encourage any of our SoulCycle employees to pursue vaccine priority as educators,” said a SoulCycle spokesman in a statement Wednesday. -market.
As of now, those who are eligible in New York City for the vaccine include people aged 65 and over, grocery workers serving the public, first responders, teachers and school administrators, public transport operators and people who live and work in shelters for homeless people. But it does not include gym staff or fitness instructors.
According to the NBC count, authorities administered more than 1 million doses in New York, with only 1.8% of the population fully vaccinated in the state.
