Instagram is now considering a major change in how the Instagram Stories feature works. The company removed the option to share feed posts with stories to some users as part of a new test.
As reported by Social Media Today (by The Verge), Instagram users have received notifications about upcoming changes that disable the option to reshare a photo or video from the regular story feed.
The company claims that some people don’t like to see the same content in the feed being shared in the stories, as each feature was created for a different purpose. A banner appears at the top of the application with the following message for users who have been chosen to participate in this test:
We heard from our community that they want to see fewer posts in Stories. During this test, you will not be able to add a feed post to your story.
Instagram told the report that tests are being conducted “in selected regions”, while saying that “there are no plans to implement this change more broadly at this stage”. It is unclear how the social network determines which users in which regions will lose access to the option to share again.
On the other hand, Instagram started advising content creators not to pass on TikTok videos to Reels – which is the Instagram platform that competes directly with TikTok. Although Instagram is not banning TikTok videos, the company calls for the new Reels to be “original and authentic”.
