Insider Poll: Most Trump voters want a stimulus check greater than $ 600

  • In April 2020, a $ 1,200 coronavirus stimulus check was sent to most American adults.
  • Eight months later, Republicans and Democrats in Congress agreed to a $ 900 billion coronavirus relief bill that would send another stimulus check, this time for $ 600.
  • President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that checks should be worth much more: $ 2,000. According to the Insider poll, only a third of respondents who voted for Trump agreed and said the checks should be $ 2,000 or more.

After Republicans and Democrats in Congress passed a $ 900 billion coronavirus stimulus bill on Sunday, which includes a $ 600 stimulus check – half the value of the first stimulus check sent in April – President Donald Trump surprised Congress and said that the checks should be high higher: $ 2,000. Your supporters agree.

A recent survey by Insider and SurveyMonkey showed that 72% of respondents who voted for Trump believe that stimulus checks should be more than $ 600. On the other hand, one in ten respondents who voted for Trump said that checks from stimulus should be $ 0, or effectively no second stimulus check.

A further analysis of the responses of Trump voters is as follows:

  • A third, 33%, agrees with Trump and said that stimulus checks should reach $ 2,000 or more.
  • 70% said that stimulus checks should be $ 1,000 or more.
  • Only 20% said that stimulus checks should be less than $ 600.
  • 10% said that stimulus checks should be $ 5,000 or more.

This analysis comes from a SurveyMonkey Audience survey conducted on December 21. The survey collected 1,123 respondents who were asked about vacation plans for coronavirus, the Congressional stimulus package, and a number of other questions. Of the respondents, 305 told Insider that they voted for Trump, and 507 said that they voted for Joe Biden.

Trump voters are not the only ones pushing for a bigger stimulus check.

According to the same survey by Insider and SurveyMonkey, 86% of Biden voters said that stimulus checks should be greater than $ 600, 49% of Biden voters said that checks should be $ 2,000 or more, and 76 % of all respondents said that stimulus checks should be $ 1,000 or more.

Despite pressure from the president to increase the size of the stimulus check, it is unclear whether Congress will be able to reach an agreement on that amount. Following Trump’s description of the $ 600 check, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez announced on Twitter that an additive had been prepared to increase the value of the check. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tried to increase the size of the check through a “unanimous consent” process on Thursday morning, but was blocked by House Republicans.

Trump left the White House for his Florida residence in Mar-a-Lago on Wednesday without signing the coronavirus relief bill or the general bill to fund the military and government by 2021. According to the Politico, the bills will be sent to Florida on Thursday.
