A Filipino health worker who received the first dose of a 2019 coronavirus vaccine (Covid-19) died of complications from the virus and not from inoculation, the government said on Wednesday.
In a statement, the Department of Health (DoH) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the unidentified victim died on March 15. The health professional was considered positive for the disease after a test after his death.
The testimony did not mention the vaccine that was given to the health professional.
An investigation for regional and national adverse events after immunization (AEFI) committees in the incident based on the World Health Organization (WHO) AEFI 2019 Causality Assessment methodology concluded that the cause of death was not due to the vaccine, but due to complications brought about by Covid-19.
The committees added that while the vaccine is part of the solution to ending the pandemic, it urged the public to continue to meet minimum health standards, such as wearing masks. physical distance, regular hand washing and avoiding crowded places.
They also urged frontline health workers to be vaccinated, especially with the growing number of Covid-19 cases in the country.
“Millions of people worldwide have received this vaccine and the evidence continues to show that the benefit of vaccination outweighs the risk of serious illness and death caused by Covid-19,” said both agencies.
