Inmates break windows, set fire to St. Louis prison

Dozens of prisoners in a St. Louis prison revolted on Sunday night – smashing windows and setting facilities on fire, according to reports.

About 60 rebel prisoners wreaked havoc at the Justice Center on the second and third floors of the facility, starting around 8:45 pm, police told KTVI.

Video images posted on social media by KSDK reporter Casey Nolan, shows several prisoners breaking windows on the third floor while the witnesses below encourage them.

Several prisoners held posters outside the windows, according to images posted on Facebook by Real Stl News, reading “Free Ace” and “Free LJ”.

No one escaped during the chaos, although the prisoners threw a makeshift rope from the third floor to a landing on the second floor, according to social media images.

At around 10:20 pm, the police removed the prisoners from the windows, the KSDK reported. Shortly afterwards, firefighters extinguished a fire caused by the prisoners.

The prisoners then broke the windows and set fire to the back of the building, according to reports. The second fire was also put out by firefighters.

Sunday night’s chaos comes about two months after 117 jai prisoners freed themselves from their cells and caused similar destruction, causing fires and smashing windows, according to KSDK.
