Indianapolis shooting: Four people were shot to death – including a 7-year-old child – after an argument over a stimulus check, officials say

The officers were dispatched after a person was shot on Saturday night, according to a press release from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. Police found a woman with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound, the statement said.

The woman, who was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, told police officers that there were more victims, the statement said.

In a second residence, the police found Eve Moore, 7, Daquan Moore, 23, Anthony Johnson, 35, and Tomeeka Brown, 44. All of them suffered gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the press release.

When detectives began investigating, they found that the initial shot victim’s boyfriend and father of his baby, Malik Halfacre, 25, was the person who allegedly shot the five people.

The victim told police that Halfacre fled the scene and took his 6-month-old daughter with him, the statement said.

In the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities located the baby at Halfacre’s sister’s house after she called 911 to report that the missing child was with her, according to the statement. She told police that her brother knocked on the door and left the baby and her things, according to the statement. The sister also said he admitted killing four people and told her the details of how it happened, the statement said.

The baby was safe and unharmed, the police added in the press release.

The authorities gathered more information that took them to a residence where they found Halfacre hidden in the attic and took him away.

According to the testimony, he told detectives that he had been arguing with the victims that the police discovered first, because he wanted part of his stimulus check.

He admitted to shooting every deceased person found, the statement said. He added that after everyone was shot, he took the money, the initial bag of the shooting victim and his car and left, leaving his daughter at his sister’s house and then walking to a friend’s house, where he was found by the police , according to the testimony.

According to court documents, Halfacre is charged with murder, attempted murder and theft. His next court hearing is scheduled for March 18. CNN was unable to determine whether Halfacre got a lawyer.
