Six people were killed and one person was seriously injured in what local authorities are calling a “mass murder” in Indianapolis on Sunday morning.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received a call to 911 just before 4 am on Sunday reporting that an individual was shot at block 3300 on East 36th Street.
Upon arriving at the scene, the police officers who responded discovered a boy injured by a firearm. The boy, who was taken to a nearby local hospital in critical condition, must survive the injuries.
After obtaining more information, police were directed to 3500 Adams Street, where they found several people shot inside a home, including a pregnant woman who was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Police confirmed that the woman, her unborn child and other victims inside the house were declared dead.
“There are no right words to say at this point, a time when our community must come to terms with the biggest mass shooting in more than a decade,” IMPD chief Randal Taylor told a news conference on Sunday. evening. “I myself am heartbroken for the lives that were taken too soon, for the young life that changed forever and for the life that never got a chance to start.”
Sergeant Shane Foley added that the incident “does not appear to be a random act” and that an investigation into the incident is underway, with detectives active on the scene searching the area for witnesses or anyone with more information.

Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett said the incident was not “a simple act of armed violence”.
“What happened this morning was a mass murder,” said Hogsett. “The choice of an individual or individuals to bring, and do not use these words lightly, terror to our community.”
In addition, Hogsett said he contacted the US Attorney General’s office and the FBI to assist with the investigation and issued a harsh warning to the individual or individuals responsible for the “justice will be done” incident.
“I want those responsible to know that all the power of the local, state and federal police is coming after them as I speak,” added Hogsett. “Coming for them today, coming for them tonight, coming for them tomorrow and the next day. Coming for them as long as it takes to find them, and we won’t stop there.”
The police will also determine whether the firearms involved in the incident were illegally owned and will identify any person responsible for providing them, as well as anyone who has or chooses to help and encourage the individual or individuals involved.
“We will not stop until someone who is complicit in this act of violence is blamed,” added Hogsett.
