INDIANAPOLIS – Of course, no amount of money is going to give quarterback Carson Wentz his 11th jersey with his new team, the Indianapolis Colts.
Colts’ second-year recipient, Michael Pittman Jr., who currently uses the number 11, says he talked to Wentz about the number, and the answer is no in a possible exchange.
“I’m number 11,” Pittman Jr. told TMZ Sports. “… I don’t think there is anything to be done.”
It is not uncommon for players on new teams to try to buy their favorite shirt number for a large sum from one of their teammates.
The Colts agreed to acquire Wentz to be their new Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback for a third round choice in 2021 and a second round choice in 2022, which could turn into a first round choice on February 18.
Wentz put on the no. 11 while at North Dakota State University and during his first five years with the Eagles.
“Yes, so I spoke to [Carson] and he was seeing how I was stuck at No. 11, and I told him I was stuck – and he said, ‘That’s cool, man, because I’m probably going to switch anyway,’ “Pittman Jr. told TMZ Sports. “… He asked me with great respect, and I just appreciated him for that. I think he’s a great guy, because a lot of guys with his status, they would come and demand and things like that. “
Pittman Jr. wore number 86 in college at USC, but changed to 11th after being chosen by the Colts.
