Indiana University Health’s CEO is being criticized for issuing a statement stating that a black doctor who complained of receiving inadequate COVID-19 treatment before his death “may have [had] intimidated ”his nursing team. Dr. Susan Moore posted a video on Facebook claiming that her white doctor made her “feel like I was a drug addict” by asking for more narcotics to deal with her pain. Moore later wrote on Facebook that the hospital offered adequate care and that she was discharged before succumbing to the virus weeks later in another hospital. “I don’t believe we failed in the technical aspects of Dr. Moore’s care delivery,” wrote Dennis Murphy, CEO of Indiana University Health, in the statement. “I am concerned, however, that we may not have shown the level of compassion and respect that we seek in understanding what is most important to patients.”
