In saying goodbye, Barr says it was a “great honor” to serve as AG

Bill Barr concluded his last day as attorney general on Wednesday, writing in a farewell note that “it was a great honor” to serve.

“As I said to the president in my letter of departure and reiterated during my last press conference on Monday, it was a great honor to serve once again in this role,” wrote Barr, who was attorney general in the George HW Bush administration.

“In the past two years, the dedicated men and women of this Department – including its operational components – have grown to meet historic challenges and defend our vital mission to enforce the rule of law,” Barr said in the note.

“I have been continuously inspired by his professionalism and excellent work.
As I did 30 years ago, I leave this office with deep respect for you and I will always be grateful for your service dedicated to the Nation we love ”, he continued.

Barr’s resignation was announced last Monday in a tweet from President Trump after the two clashed over whether there was fraud during the 2020 presidential election and Barr did not inform Congress of an existing investigation into the president-elect’s son Joe Biden, Hunter Biden.

Trump announced that Barr was stepping down shortly after the Electoral College certified that Biden was the winner of the election.

In his resignation letter, Barr praised Trump for resisting the onslaught of Democrats’ allegations during his four years.

“Your record is even more historic because you won it in the face of relentless and relentless resistance,” Barr wrote to Trump.

“Your 2016 victory speech, in which you reach out to your opponents and ask for joint work for the benefit of the American people, was immediately met by a party attack on you in which no tactic, however abusive and misleading, it was off limits. The low point of this campaign was the effort to paralyze, if not topple, his government with frantic and unfounded accusations of collusion with Russia, ”Barr wrote in the letter.

Barr, who came out of retirement to lead the Justice Department in December 2018, at a final press conference on Monday rejected any need to appoint a special attorney to investigate Hunter Biden or examine allegations of election fraud in the election.

“I think that, as there is an investigation, I think it is being handled responsibly and professionally currently within the department and, to this point, I have not seen a reason to appoint a special lawyer and I have no plans to do so before I go away, ”said Barr.

The president-elect’s son confirmed earlier this month that he was under investigation for possible tax fraud.

The Post revealed Hunter Biden’s suspicious trade talks in Ukraine and China in October.

Barr will be replaced by Deputy Attorney General Jeffery Rosen as interim.
