In 2020, Just Dance was as popular as watchdogs and Mario Kart 8 sold more than in 2019

Numbers are delicious. We are big fans of chewing on all those tasty statistical cereals and spitting out interesting nuggets facts. Remember when we looked at gamesindustry.biz’s “Year In Numbers” and found out that Nintendo Switch owners were the most likely to own another console? Well, we’re back with another fun discovery, courtesy of GI.biz editor Christopher Dring.

It turns out that there are two things that people want to do during the pandemic: drive and dance. Since we can’t do much of that in real life, we’re all going back to video games. Just Dance 2021 apparently sold almost as many copies as Watch the Legion of Dogs, which is surprising (and perhaps disappointing?) for the London-based hacking game.

Both games are owned by Ubisoft, so it’s money in your pocket anyway – money that will go to make the next Just Dance even more danceable.

Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – the Nintendo Switch version of Best-selling Wii U game – sold more copies in 2020 than in 2019. In fact, it’s been doing better each year since its launch in 2017, according to Dring, and that even reached first place at Christmas in Germany.

what probably means that many people are buying Switches and reinforcing their game library with the 10/10 game we call “the ultimate Mario Kart 8 experience”, telling readers that it was an “easy choice” for Switch owners.

Wait, does that mean people listen to our advice? We will say yes.
