iMac Pro officially retired, now unavailable at Apple and retail partners (update: temporarily in stock)

Update: As we noted today, although the iMac Pro has been discontinued, it would likely go in and out of stock for a while. It is now back in stock in the United States on Apple.com, albeit in short supply.

Two days ago, we reported that the iMac Pro had been listed as “while supplies last” on the Apple Store. Today, the iMac Pro has officially become unavailable at the Apple Store and major retail partners in the United States, marking the end of the three-year transition product line.

Previously, Apple had removed all custom configurations from the iMac Pro, leaving a single model for $ 4,999. Now iMac Pro is completely unavailable, leaving Mac Pro as the only “professional” desktop Mac. The iMac Pro is still listed on Apple.com and the Apple Store app, but it is impossible to buy the product. Most retail stores are also unavailable, but there is a remote chance that it is still available in your area. It is also important to note that products like this can also come and go sporadically on Apple.com, based on the cancellation of existing orders, as well as other factors.

Retail partners like Best Buy and Amazon are also listing the iMac Pro as unavailable for delivery and pickup. Apple introduced updated iMacs in August 2020, but forgot to make major changes to the iMac Pro, probably because of the imminent launch of the Apple Silicon. The updated iMac 2020 models include an option for the nano-texture display and processors that can be as fast as the iMac Pro.

Rumors have been circulating for some time about a completely redesigned Apple Silicon iMac, with fine bezels, colorful exterior and much more. With the major speed and performance improvements that come with the Apple Silicon, it’s likely that Apple just doesn’t see a place for the iMac Pro anymore and plans to focus on making a single really great iMac.
