After a month-long hiatus of competition, the Illini women’s golf team is set to travel east to the Briar’s Creek Collegiate Invitational that will start on Monday.

The Illini will be on John’s Island, South Carolina, for their third friendly match of the season, after placing 10th and 7th in their respective previous tournaments. The 54-hole invitation will be presented by the College of Charleston and Illini will face some familiar faces from the Big Ten (Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Penn State).

Illinois began its season on February 7 in Sarasota, Florida, for the Hero Ladies Intercollegiate and, a week later, on February 14, traveled back to Florida for the Moon Golf Invitational.

Freshman Isabel Sy was Illini’s best scorer in her last showdown with a 4-under 68, giving them a sixth place in the 18-team event. Senior Ali Morallos also had a great performance in the last tournament, where he was Illini’s second best scorer with a par 72.

The golf program recently announced that Alise Knudson officially signed up for the Illinois golf program after an illustrious high school career. The Dallas, Texas native has a long list of tournament championships for the 2020 season, which she hopes to bring to the table this year for Illini.

After Briar’s Creek, Illini will have two more guests remaining before competing in the Big Ten Championship on April 23-25. After that, the team will have a chance to represent Illinois at the NCAA Regional Championship, which will take place from May 10th to 12th.
