Illinois Politics: Senate Republican leader Bill Brady announces effective resignation Thursday night by letter

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois. (WLS) – Senate Republican leader Bill Brady announced on Thursday that he would step down at 11:59 pm

“I wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that I will resign my position in the Illinois Senate from 11:59 pm on December 31, 2020,” Brady wrote in a letter to his supporters.

“I am proud of the work I have done throughout my career in the Illinois Legislature, both in the Illinois House and in the Senate, and very proud of my tenure in the Illinois Republican Senate Caucus for the past three and a half years,” he wrote.

“Our caucus has succeeded in securing additional funding for our public schools; helping to create a tax credit scholarship program for low and middle income private schools, facing increases in income taxes that harm working families and working tirelessly to improve our ruined infrastructure state “, praised Brady in the letter he posted on Twitter.

Brady did not reveal any plans for the future in his letter.

In October, Brady criticized Governor JB Pritzker for shutting down meals in much of the state, rather than allowing them to continue operating at a reduced level.

Brady made three attempts at governor, all to no avail.

Brady, 59, is a native of Bloomington.
