The preliminary positivity of the seven-day state test from December 25 to 31 is 9.5%.

The test’s positivity rate is a metric that the state began providing in late October. It is calculated using the total number of positive tests over the total number of tests. This is the metric used by state health officials to make mitigation decisions.

The state-run COVID-19 test sites are closed on Friday for the New Year holiday.

Covered bar and dinner service is still banned in Kane County, according to COVID-19 mitigation rules, but some people have chosen to celebrate the New Year inside a South Elgin pub. Stanley’s Restaurant and Ale House defied state orders, offering food, drink, karaoke and curiosities – all within you – while trying to enforce your own COVID-19 rules.

The owners said they had been open for business in the countryside without any citation from the county or state for the past 10 weeks.
